I absolutely love painting portraits and illustrations for book and novel writers. So when Blanca Mármol contacted me about remaking the cover for her book, and painting a lovely redhead thief, I just couldn’t refuse!
It all started in 2020, when Blanca commissioned me to paint Arlie’s portrait. Few months later, while painting the cover for the book, I had to make sure that her face looked recognizable on the cover as well. Especially that she was shown in a totally different situation and outfit!
Pssst. On the cover Arlie is about to steal the necklace she wears on the portrait below! What a nice teaser!
After a few weeks of painting, consultations and making adjustments the process of creating a book cover illustration was over. Blanca and I were happy with Arlie’s look and facial expression!
I can’t count how many colour versions I’ve created. It’s so fun to play with colours and check which one reflects the mood described in the brief by the book’s author. In my opinion the fiery colours of evening sun perfectly highlighted Arlie’s red hair! At the end I’ve decided to add some blue tones to the background to make Arlie’s silhouette really stand out.
The cover illustration featuring the lovely redhead thief was ready. Next I needed to choose fonts and design the full cover (front, spine and back), and make sure that the book is ready for release, both digital (e-book) and in paper.
So If you speak Spanish then go and get the book on Amazon.
